Why is it called “Shipwreck Bronze”?…. Find out in the “How it's Made” segment below..
There’s so much for me to say about these pendants, how they came to be, how they are made and their wearing options!
Inspired by the real fossils that can be found right here, on the Yorkshire Coast!
3 pendants in 1 - Wear in a Cluster or split them into 3 individual pendants and gift 2 to special people in your life!
Parents and children, grandparents, siblings, partners or best friends…
Perfect as “Friendship Pendants” or “Family Pendants” … or keep them all for yourself to have the option to mix and match!
Fit them together!
Just like my large Ammonites in their Rocks, you can gently sit these 3 pendants together to become one little fossil sandwich!
They are NOT made to permanently connect together like an actual locket, but they ARE made to be pushed together and played with, hung in a lose, tactile cluster, filled with texture and layers, like charms from the sea…
And completely by accident the combined piece looks a bit like a real Heart!
Mix & Match! -
Golden Bronze or Silver?
What would your combination be?…
A Golden Rock with a darkened Silver Ammonite inside?
Shining Silver Rocks with a Bronze Ammonite?
Or a whole Set in Bronze or a whole Set in Silver?
And you don’t have to stop at 3!…
Add as many as you like to your cluster, or gift as many as you like, they will all fit one another!
- For my Family -
I have 3 Sisters and have made this necklace in honour of them, each of them now owns an individual pendant, that fits together, to remind them not only of me, but of their childhood by the North Sea and how much they mean to me.
Once combined together, with the Ammonite nestled safely inside, I feel this represents how they make me feel… whole.
Chain Optional -
I have a set, standard chain available, but you don’t have to purchase the chain if you have your own favourite one!
The chain provided (if ordered) is SOLID, STERLING SILVER (Not plated) and is 18 inches - See size on models pictured -

- About the Design and How Its Made -
What makes my Ammonites different from other Ammonite Jewellery?…
Well… I Hand Forge mine!
My Ammonites are not simply a casting of a pre-existing fossil, but have been hand wrought from start to finish by yours truly, in my Blacksmiths Forge!… THEN they are cast in some fancier metals, after all that hard work is done!
When I make my Larger Ammonites in their Rocks as Ornaments, the first thing I do is Forge an Ammonite from Steel in my Fire!
Tapering, twisting and scrolling it up as I go…
Then, I take that Ammonite and SQUASH it into white hot, large chunks of steel, or sometimes solid Brass, this pressure often opens up the spiral of the Ammonite just slightly…
As it is crushed in a sandwich of hot metal it leaves two imprints behind, that the fossil can then be taken in and out of, just like the real stone “nodules” that can contain the hidden treasures of fossils!
My golden versions are inspired by specimens that have had their outer rock (containing Iron Pyrite) polished up to a lustrous, golden hue!
For these tiny pendants I first had to forge a miniature version of my usual sculpture!
Then I carefully made and soldered on the eyelets and fettled the metal to allow them to still sit together…
THEN… I had them cast in some more precious metals…
Solid Silver and Classic, Golden Bronze!
But not just ANY Bronze, Bronze made from literal Shipwreck Treasure!
I have the pendants cast with “St Justins” of Cornwall, and their Bronze is made from a special mixture that they smelt themselves, containing the usual mix for Classic Bronze, Copper and Tin…
But their Tin comes from ingots recovered from the SS Liverpool that sank off the coast of Cornwall in 1863, carrying a cargo of true Cornish Tin.
Once recovered, they removed the barnacles and now use it to make their Bronze!
Giving this metal an ancient pedigree, steeped in history, not to be found elsewhere.
A fitting metal to make my nautical necklaces from!
As you can see - Each rock half is unique, with its own stone like “cracking” and markings, and one side features my makers mark on the back - A curly V with a tiny K inside for authenticity!
Finish and Care -
As you can see, I have created a contrast between the shining raised areas and the darker, inset detail, you can polish your pendants as you would usually clean jewellery, but if you want to keep the dark areas dark, just try not to rub over these areas, as they will lighten.
Silver and Bronze will dull over time but can be easily polished/rubbed back to a shine!
Bronze contains copper which can form harmless, green copper salts, so make sure to remove your jewellery before showering, exercising or swimming (keep it dry!) and give it a gentle wipe with a soft cloth to remove built up surface dirt.
Would you prefer Real Gold? -
I can arrange to have these pendants made in Solid Gold (not gold plated) but as the price of gold fluctuates often, an up to date quotation is needed.
If you would like to collect your purchase there is no need to select delivery, simply select the collection option in “Other Delivery Options” and let me know when you would like to collect!
